City Stream Monitoring
 Monitoring occurs upstream and downstream of 14 inland cities in Iowa to better understand the
contribution of urban sources to the total loading of inland streams in
Iowa.Sites being monitored (see map) include Ames,
Cedar Rapids,
Charles City, Des Moines, Fort Dodge, Independence, Iowa City, Marshalltown, Mason City, Ottumwa,
Sac City, Shenandoah,
Spencer, and Waterloo. Monitoring of water near these urban sites includes
analysis for metals, nutrients, and priority pollutants. Sites
were monitored twice annually in 1999-2000, in the fall (1999) under low-flow conditions, and in
the spring (2000) under higher flow conditions.
Beginning in the federal fiscal year (FY) 2001 (October 2000), these sites are monitored on a
monthly basis. |
